I just picked up my "new" pre war mod 70. It's an
'06 with the "old style" safety. What needs to be done to change to a new 3 position safety, and what's it going to cost? I also will need a new stock, the old one has been cut to a 10.75" LOP.

Thank you in advance

Mike

To add a question to your post as I have a eye out for a pre war m70. I have '49 m70 now. Whats wrong with the Old style safety ? I dont need 3 positions. 2 is ok with me as is the lever style.

Mine comes up as either a 38 or a 39 depending on what book or computer source I use. I just am used to the 3pos. safety, maybe I will try it, who knows, I may like it!

Soundman the 3 position safety that is on your rifle can be changed with a Tilden conversion lever, it is $37. It makes the fire position to be on the far right forward position rather than straight back. Ends up just like the newer 3 position safeties. I also have someone who is in the market for your old lever and will refer him to you. The safety is a 3 position now, but it is a pain with a scope. The lever will end up right under the eye piece bell.

You can get the conversions here. Scroll down, it is part number X11170T *.

Thanks Chic

I am assuming this part must be fitted? I just can't believe it would be a drop in.

It does need to be fitted! It can be a tedious job or it can be simple. I can give it a try.
