I've found an Interarms Mark X in 300 Win. Mag. in my local shop. It's a little rough. I'm guessing was some guy's deer rifle for the last 20 or so years, with little regard to the stock. It's not beaten to death, but fairly scratched. The metal is in pretty good shape. A little light surface dusting here and there, but far, far from pitted or anything detrimental. I'm looking at this rifle for the action only for a build in the future. Been thinking 416 Taylor or maybe 458 Win. Mag., but would the 404 Jeff fit in this action? That would be my route if so. I've seen reference to the Jeff being built on this action in the past.

What's it worth? That's the real question I suppose. I can walk out the door with it for $250 and I'm thinking that's an ok deal. Whadya think?

$250 is a good buy....go for it.

Personally, I'd start with an action originally in .375 H&H if I wanted a .404 J. but someone can fix this to suit.

+1

The action alone is worth more than $250.

Yep $250 is a good price. The MKX can be made into a 404J. It will require magazine and feed work. The 416, 458 or one of Jeffe's ARs would fit with little to no work.

As usual just my $.02

Thanks fellows. I felt like it was a pretty good buy. Guess I'm headed to the shop in a few minutes then. Just needed some reassurance.

I'm really interested in a standard bolt face, but I'll just have to find one of those later. I need a Mauser action to build a 7x57 on. Then maybe a 9.3x62. Then maybe a nice '06. Oh god, do you see where this is headed? This site is gonna break me.

I am just curious. Is this action one of the Magnum actions that has the little cutout on the front receiver ring, or is this action a regular action that has been converted to a magnum. There were some Magnum action made (I have one) that were the same as used for the .375 H & H, etc. They have the little cutout on the rear of the front receiver ring. They also have the extended magazine box.

Not exactly, ramrod. And I'm not dogging anything just correcting the record. The MkX aka Zastava magazine box is a tad narrow at the rear for the AR rounds. I know, I built the first one on an FN action. That said, it ain't a huge project to make it work. It is the Ruger 77 that is the simplest conversion.

If it's a .300 Win mag it does not have the cutout. At least the way the factory dsupplied them. They reserved those actions only for the .375 H&H.

I'm not totally sure but I think the 458 and the 375 were both opened up.

OK, I bought it. Called Roger Ferrell first to discuss it with him. He gave me the green light. I wanted that as he'll be the one doing the work when I get around to it. Gotta get my other two out of hock with him first. Jk, just dropped them off last weekend.

It's 300 Win. Mag. I dropped a 375 H&H dummy round into it and it's a no-go. Box is way too short. I'm sure a longer mag would make it work. Didn't seem to be a problem with the ejection port, but I didn't look too close. Did seem that the front of the bottom of the receiver, around the ramp, would have to be cut out a little to fit the H&H. I'm thinking this one is gonna be a 458 Win.Mag. If not, it'll be a 416 Taylor. I already have a 416 Rigby, so I'm leaning toward 458.

The 375 Taylor is another great and sometimes overlooked round that will fit right into that magazine and action. It can accomplish eveything the 375 H&H can do just like the 416 Taylor functions the same as the 416 Remington. Last but not least, with Hornady selling great .411 softs and solids, the .411 KDF is now a practical choice!
