Does anyone know if a 416 rem mag reamer will clean up a 416 taylor chamber without a lot of setback? I'd rather not rebarrel because of barrel-mounted sights. Thanks....Curt

By looking at the specs in Hornady's book, it looks like the 416 Remingotn should clean up the Talor Chamber with no set back. Check this out... the dia of the 458 Taylor case is .483,and the 416 Remington is .487 at the shoulder, so it should just clean up. Just be sure you have enough magazine length to handle the longer cartridge.

Make sure you have the extra travel and magazine length to feed the longer cartridge. Depending on what action you have this may require milling the action a bit.....

Terry What got me thinking that there might be a problem is the 416 taylor shoulder is blown out a bit. 2.040" from the base (where the shoulder starts) it's .491 diameter. The magazine in my action (MRC) is 3.65" Thanks...Curt

It all depends on the dimensions of the reamer used to cut the Taylor chamber and the reamer for the Rem chamber. Even if the Taylor chamber is just a tad too large at the shoulder, I would think that a barrel set back of no more than one full thread should allow "clean up". Also, you may want the setback in order to ensure that the rebate for the belt is at "minimum" for positive headspacing.

Thanks! Sounds like it should be an easy job. Who's doing a good job at a reasonable price without a one-year turnaround time? Tried talking to montana rifle but they won't do a rechamber - even on their own action/barrel.
