Unpolished stainless -- judge for yourself. This 300win mag rifle was polished stainless for the 2002 shotshow. Looks great in a gun cabinet. Not sure I'd want to go afield with it. [ 10-05-2003, 08:11: Message edited by: Rod@Acrabond ]

Rod or Dan- I am a little confused and maybe one or both of you could bring me some clarity. How are the Montana M1999 actions in stainless finished when they leave Kalispell? Are they polished and if so to what grit or are they bead blasted? I have two of the short actions on order and I am in a quandry as to whether to have my actions polished or received them as cast for polish and bead blasting once I have received them. I would certainly appreciate your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

The bolt and receiver are polished by a professional polishing house before MRC ever sees them. At MRC, stainless actions are bead blasted back to matte after engraving logo and serial numbers. They are then assembled, proofed and shipped. MRC will gladly NOT bead blast them back to matte if the customer requests the action to be left in the polished state. The state of polish is not mirror smooth. That would not be cost effective as everyone would have to pay for it and some/many don't want that level of polish. It is good enough to blue as is, and is also a good foundation to take to the mirror smooth level. If in doubt, my recommendation is: Call MRC and ask them to leave your action polished. If you want brighter finish, a smith can go the extra yard and get there without a lot of effort. If you want matte, a light bead blast or iron oxide blast will give you a great matte finish. Polishing back from Matte is a bit more difficult than going the other way. Rod [ 10-08-2003, 09:00: Message edited by: Rod@Acrabond ]

Rod, Thank you for helping out. I've been pretty swamped so haven't been able to get in here as often as I should. With everything that is being said (like I left the company for instance) I am going to try to be here each and every day, if only for a few moments. Dan

Dan.. I gues I'm the one who started the rumour about your being gone and I apologise but I swear that's what I heard over the phone.

Tigertate, no problem. Like I said in a post earlier we used to have a salesman named Daniel and when you called they probably asked where you were calling from and it just so happens that you are from a state that Daniel was handling and they thought you were asking for Daniel and not myself. Physically I'm always here, but some would say that sometimes mentally I have left the building Dan

Dan, Will the new PH model have a drop box and will it work with a 404 Jefferys case...Also would you take a new unused 1999 PH in on trade...as it won't work for a 404...

Ray & Everyone, We are doing the final tweeking of the design of the PH action and should have the final drawings done in the next week or so. From what I understand we will have a drop belly magazine (floorplate) on this action (not a clip). I'm not sure about a trade, but let me know what you have and I'll run it past the owner. Also we expect to have working models of the PH ready for the Shot Show at the beginning of February. Dan [ 10-24-2003, 01:34: Message edited by: Dan@Montana Rifle Co ]

Dan, if it's not too late to post a feature request - how about a magazine that will hold five rounds. This is the legal limit when hunting here in the Alberta/BC area, and where I hunt it provides that extra bit of security, 2 rounds for the elk and 3 for the grizzly. We get hunters killed every other year from grizzly attacks, and these are experienced hunters. AB
