is the reciever on a .243 longer than say a .223 reciever?

I ask cause i purchased a discounted stock and the barreled action inletting in the stock is 5/16" shorter than the .243 barreled action i am planning on bedding into the stock.

I can work around this just would like to know.

Yep, the 788's made for the 243's/308's were called "long actions" for some weird reason.

Tell him Jim Wisner is making new bolts for the 788.

I was told this yrs ago and have never really checked into it but someone here I am sure knows. Info was that the 788 was made in 4 different lengths, just repeating and asking so please don't shoot the messenger!!!!

44 Mag
222,223,22-250
243,30-30,7-08,308
6mm

I do know that there was at least 2 different bolt lengths made for .473 case dia.
About 16yrs ago when I still had FFL and did some gunwork a customer brought in a 22-250 bolt with the bolt end ripped out from sticking a case and beating on the bolt (no, this time the handle didn't break off). I had found a bolt listed in Gunlist and lo and behold when it arrived it was about 1/4" to long.
Just wanting to know what is fact and fiction from the 788 die hards!!!!

Fjold any idea about where to locate a trigger guard.
I assume that the floorplate are different as the .243 floorplate was longer than the inletting on the stock i have.

No idea on the trigger guard. It just screws into the stock and the front fits into a rectangular notch in the floorplate and may or not be different size than the others floorplate. If I was Remington I would have just moved the notch in each different size and used the same trigger guard. If Sarco or Numrich doesn't have them I wouldn't know where else to look except Ebay.

I just did an EBay search and found a trigger guard and floorplate set here but I don't know what size it is. There are also a couple of stocks for sale.

It's really just a cheap piece of sheet metal that wouldn't be hard to duplicate.
