Can't help you with the CZ550 but for bedding in general this makes interesting reading:

Here's a glass bedded stock for a '98 Mauser I'm working on.
Get a acraglass gel kit from Brownells...available in most sporting goods stores. and follow the directions.

Do it right...it takes a bit of work and time and is well worth it.

vapodog, I notice you floated the barrel and the pillar in the front is not. any reason to this? Due to pillars aiding in the "contact" of the barreled action and the stock? So it is not necessary?

The photo may be deceiving...the barrel is also bedded but for obly a couple inches....the rest is floating.

There are no pillars here.....simple glass bedding and full length of the action and the heavy section of barrel.

Ace: I would highly recommend Probed 2000 out of ScoreHi Gunsmithing in Albuquerque. Do a Google search for ScoreHi Gunsmithing and you can order the stuff right over the internet. This stuff is very easy to work with and instead of having a 20 minutes or so working time with the rifle you get about 2 hours before it get too hard to work with. I bedded my CZ 550 American in 7x57mm with the stuff and have been very pleased with it. It is durable and the brown color blends very well with the Turkish Walnut wood. What's more, if you go to the site there is a boatload of information on the product. I used it first glassbedding a Ruger Mark II, then I used it on the CZ 550 of mine and later I glassbedded a friend's Model 70 Featherweight XTR in 7x57mm. Good luck ... Tom Purdom

ace ... there is a ton of material out there on how to bed a rifle, not to mention some of the posts on this forum. However, from my own experiece, starting nearly 20 years ago, the best information I ever got was in a book called, "The Accurate Rifle" by Warren Page.

The book originally was intended for those that shoot 10 shot groups in little tiny holes, the "Bench Rest Crowd", but the sage advice that Page lays out is applicable to any modern rifle. He goes into great detail on how each style of rifle action should be bedded for best results ... from the round tube action of the Remington M700, to the flat bottom actions on Winchester M70's and Mouser style actions, which in this case would also include the CZ 550.

Since you are looking at bedding a hunting rifle, you will want to extrapolate the applicable ideas to your neads and addapt others to suit your intended purpose. Best luck.
