In my local gunstore yesterday I came across a legacy sports phamlet which had howa's amongst other things but it also stated they were importers of M98 mauser actions from Europe.

They listed Mauser 98 custom & Field Grade and then also listed the Big % Ultramag action which states it has a bolt size capable of hadling the .505 Gibbs rim.

Is this the Oly Arms Ultramg action or a different brand, what are they like ??

No doubt it would be hastle to get in Australia if you wanted one.

Just wanting to know ??

Here's a link to their website and the product catalog page. Clickon the "Mauser" link for more info on their actions.
Legacy Sports

I have one of the M98 field actions and I think it very nice especially for the $. Has steel bottom metal with hinged floorplate, M70 3-pos safety and FN style bolt handle. Needs a bit of polishing and refining to be something special, but I'm quite happy with it. Others here can better compare with the new MRC actions.

Pfeifer,

thanks for that, I could not see a price any where. What were the Big 5 actions trading for in the US ??

I wonder if this is actually the Oly Arms Action ??

I just looked at it and I can see MSRP prices posted all the way over on the right...
Safari M98 Field $445
Safari M98 Custom (polished) $580
Ultramag $3056

As to whether these are the same as the Oly Arms Ultramag (= old BBK02 action) - the obvious difference with this one is that it has the extended bottom tang. Beyond that I can't say as I've never seen one.

Regards!

Jeff,

It would be cool if you could post some close up pictures of the GT Mauser 98 action from Legacy. I am still debating whether to get one or not so it would be nice to see it here first. Thanks.
