I'll start by saying that I know little about 1911 style pistols. I have a Remington Rand 1911 that I aquired in a trade. The guy I got it from has the pistol set up for Bulls-eye Shooting, including an extended front sight and target-style rear. The gun shoots very well, but it just doesn't suit me as it is. I tried selling it here in the classified section but there was little interest. So I decided that If I can change the sights to lower profile style, the gun would at least serve as a good carry gun. The problem is that the front sight looks like it is held in by studs instead of a dovetail. My question is, will it be worth the trouble to have the sights swapped out on a gun that's really only worth around $400 to me? It definately looks like a job for a gunsmith, so between labor and parts, it doesn't seem worth it. Or am I wrong and it's not as dificult a job as I'm making it out to be? Post a close up picture of the slide and sight and lets see what you have to work with. Probably not too big a deal. | |||
