Its been six months now since I ordered my replacement bbl and it still hasnt even left the factory. With the rising costs of rebarreling and the IRS making life more difficult on barrelmakers, is it time to bring back the once popular method of reboring.

Yes, I'd like to know who requires over 6 months to produce a barrel...so I can avoid them!

I ordered a #2 contour 257 from Shaw last October. I talked to a Smith two days ago in northern Ut and he said that Shilen and Douglas are taking longer than they used to as well because they have to pay tax now on any finished bbls they produce.??

Im sure that in the 50s and 60s that a guy could get a quality re-bore job in a reasonable time frame. Every smith in the phone book was doing it then.

Wstrnhuntr, tax laws aren't any different for barrel makers than for anyone else. You pay on income minus outgo. Items produced and in stock aren't taxed until they are sold.

You ordered a raw barrel from Shaw? Why pray tell? Okay, disregard, I don't want to start another one of the Shaw barrel threads. I do have one myself.
