I rebarreled a Ruger #1 from 22-250 to 204 Ruger. I installed the new extractor for the 204 case head. For some reason there is very little side to side movement of the new extractor. This lack of side to side movement means it does not ever go sideways to get under The 204 case rim. The assembly is together correctly to the best of my knowledge including the spring and plunger That side load the extractor for hook up under the 204 case rim. Anybody ever experience this on a Ruger #1, if so what did you do to correct it.

Since the 204 case head is smaller the extractor has to move over more to get under the rim; look at your vertical barrel slot. That would stop it from moving right far enough. #1s actually have several extractor lengths but I have found that they are very forgiving and easy to make work with other cases. Maybe a 450 Nitro extractor wouldn't be best for a 22 Hornet but I could make it work.

I ended up opening up the pivot hole in the extractor and also chamfering the inboard side of the pivot hole of the extractor. Now it works. Thanks for your input.
