A friend has an older Savage 110C, in 30-06. He has noticed the bolt handle lifts when he fires it, both live and dry. I looked at it and the bolt handle moves maybe .125in the lugs appear to stay locked but he is afraid to use it. I told him it may be normal but I would post here and get an opinion, anyone know anything about this?? My Savage rifles do not do this but they are pretty new. I have never seen anything like it on other rifles.

On the back of the bolt there is a large screwdriver slot, tighten it.

The Savage bolt is made of three pieces and the bolt handle is on splines. The screwhead rear section of the bolt keeps that tightened up.

There's nothing at all unsafe about this.

Oops! I though that the bolt had 1/8" of movement with the action closed and assumed that it was a loose bolt handle.

Now that I've read the post more closely you are saying that the bolt handle moves 1/8" when the trigger is pulled.
That's not uncommon in a lot of guns. Like Vapodog said it's not a big issue, it won't come unlocked.

While it's no big issue, if he has the bolt lugs lapped correctly, the condition will diminish or dissappear Wink.
