I was just reading an article about Lazzeroni in the October issue of American Rifleman. It said that the Lazz. cartridges were designed to fit into a Remington action. I have been thinking about putting together an 8.59 titan -- will this fit into a 700's magazine? Thanks

Take a look at the dimensions on his website www.lazzeroni.com but they should fit.

One thing to consider is the bolt-face at 0.577" is much bigger than the action was designed for and although there are gunsmiths who build them on the Rem 700 actions, I think they are at the limit of safety...the problem is the large increase in bolt thrust...remember these cartridges work in the 67,000psi range. If you want to read about bolt-thrust take a look at Dan Lilja's website under his "articles" section and you may have second thoughts about using the Rem 700 action.

If you decide to go ahead, let me suggest Mark Bansner as a gunsmith. Him and his team have a lot of experience doing what you want but I believe he prefers using the Model 70 action. His website has information on what he charges to modify actions to handle and feed the Lazzeroni cartridges.

Hello
Both the 700 and 70 can "handle" the 8.59 but they will not be happy. This a needlessly huge cartridge, loaded to the edge and beyond. I have shot 1 built by Lazz. and it is unbelievable in the recoil realm. Most be 120 FPR easily. More fell than a 505 Gibbs. I shoot a .500 3" Krieghoff alot and that is mild in comparison.

It will "fit" a true rigby size action much better.

This is a little bit off the subject, but if Lazzaroni isn't building the rifle for you then you might consider sending a few pieces of your brass with your rifle so the gunsmith can check them against his reamer. We recently did a 7.82 Warbird and after the customer fired a few rounds it came back showing that the chamber was oversized. Checking his brass against the reamer showed that the chamber was oversized. In the end it will save you a lot of headaches and time.

Dan....what action did you build the Warbird on and where did you get the over-sized reamer?
