Hello! I have a M98 that I'm going to put a one-piece, Leupold-type scope base on. When shopping around for this on the net I notice that not only Leupold makes this base, but Burris (Supreme Standard), Weaver (Grand Slam) and Redfield too. They're all steel, they look about the same, and the prices are similar. The same goes for the accompanying rings. Look similar, similar prices, except Burris' signature rings which runs a bit higher. Then my question is, are there differences on the bases that should make me go for one before any of the others? Same with the rings. And will rings from one brand fit the another brands bases? regards, beefeater

I doubt you will have trouble with either style of base. The one piece base is very strong but the 2 piece are fine as well. I prefer the 2 piece as they provide more room to load the magazine. Because I live and hunt in a colder climate than many do this is important to me. It may not be a concern to you. Hope that helps.

Brownells stocks Warne steel bases that will fit an unaltered 98 Mauser. ( charging hump on receiver bridge not removed). You can use Weaver style rings with these bases. I use Burrs Z-Rings on mine worked just fine.
