I would like to know if an '06 cartridge can be built on a KAR 98(large ring, standard length 98, small ring front) safely. I know there are many opinions on this, would like some real ideas on how safe. Re-heat treat a possibility? Love the idea of these actions, don't know how safe. Thanks in advance, Mike Allred Mike Allred

It has been done many times before without any problems, but in my opinion the M98 carbines deserves to be chambered in 8x57IS ![]()

In the 1960's & '70s I owned quite a few put together by both German and English makers as sporters. Virtually every one, I had rechambered to either 8m/m-'06 or 8m/m-06-AI. Never had any problems of any sort with any of them. No feeding problems, no lug recess set-back, nada. I think you'll have no need to re-heat treat them. My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
