I have decided to build a new rifle and I have a few questions. My plan is to build a 416 Ruger. I have found a M98 mauser actioned Parker Hale in 7mm Rem Mag to use as a donor action, my thinking being that the bolt face and feed rails will need minimal if any work this way, is this correct? While looking for a barrel I came across a PacNor barrel threaded for the M98 and chambered in 416 Taylor. I don't want to build a 416 Taylor but I was wondering if the Taylor chamber would clean up fully if rechambered to 416 Ruger? Looking forward to some input. It's not the caliber of the rifle that matters - It's the caliber of the man behind it.

I believe the 416 Ruger cleans up everything but the belt on a 416 Taylor. So if you have enough shank to set the barrel back to remove the belt then it should work. Never done it but might be able to simply ignore the belt area. Smaeter people than me will have to answer that one. Parker Hale not my first choice but will probably work. Jeffe and others that have used Mausers for 416AR can also shed light as to feeding issues. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Certainly depends on yur final expectations. We make a magazine and follwer dedicated to the 375/416 Ruger. That same combo is unsuitable for the 7mm Rem Mag But...almost anything can be compromised. Comfort level for a deer rifle and a DGR rifle will be different.

I've built a few 375 and 416 Rugers on commercial Mauser actions. A great fit. Yes, starting with a 7mm Rem will negate any need for bolt modifications and will reduce but not eliminate any feeding modifications. Some were built using the factory bottom metal and some with "proper" bottom metal. In the end, the all performed as required. The big difference being capacity. That said, I prefer to replace the bottom metal at the time of the build. Aut vincere aut mori
