I am glass bedding a M70 .270 win. It's a new supergrade rifle. At this time I'm only planning on bedding the front recoil lug area and the rear tang screw area. My questions relates to the rear tang area. The action apears to seat on lthe round underbody of the action and the actual screw lug seams to have metal to wood clearance- I assume to avoid reacting any recoil loads on this area of the stock. What would the "right" extent of bedding be in this area? a minor amount of inletting under the tang, or bed the rear screw lug and extend the bedding up into the tang surface? jh

I guess I am a glass junkie, but I always bed all of the tang area and if I think it needs it, I pillar bed the screw. Since I bed the bottom metal on a 70, the pillars are not usually needed. Yes, thanks Larry. I drew a light pencil line around the tang, pulled the stock, and using a sharp gouge, removed some walnut under the tang, I double poly taped the back of the screw lug and built a clay dam in the stock slightly ahead of the tang screw. I have not fooled with bedding the action between the front of the magazine and the rear screw, nor have I bedded bottom metal.
