Anodizing is a thick oxide coating put on electrolytically. Then ,since this is porous ,it is filled with a wax which may be dyed in various colors.Platers may be able to remove it chemically but a DIY project -it would be better to just sand it off .Of course it will be softer without the oxide.

Do not remove the anodizing. There is nothing within your power to put anything as durable back on. You would have to send it out to someone to strip it off and reanodize. Aluminum is not like steel where you can bake stuff on as easily or drop them in the bluing tanks. If Talley stuff is not available in your liking, buy another brand. Don't sell yourself short by becoming confined to one brand's offerings. -Spencer

Back in the day, when our anodized aluminum engine parts( valve covers, air cleaners, etc) started getting scratched and worn, we sprayed oven cleaner on them and it took the anodizing right off. I don't know if this would do anything for your mounts or how your particular formulation of aluminum would react.

Voice of experience here ... don't remove the anodizing. The aluminum is too soft to get polished or any finish as tough back on it.
