I have just recently purchased an older Savage 99 lever action rifle, "250-3000", with excellent bore and factory finish. Any ideas concerning (1) forend preasure? and, (2)getting a better trigger pull? Thanks, guys.

Ask Chic what he thinks of Savage99. Oh yeah wait, you're actually talking about the gun. Not the jackass.

I had a 1st year production 99 in 308 several years ago. It had about he worst trigger I've ever owned. I consulted several good 'smiths. They all said there isn't much to be done about it. I sold the rifle. If you have any luck, please post something and let us know. I liked the rifle, and would get another if I could get a decent trigger.

I'm sure Ray and Jack will probably chime in on this since they both know a lot about these rifles. I've found that some of these rifles like to have a bit of material removed from where the forestock enters the receiver. In essence, this hangs the forestock from the barrel with no contact to the receiver. I guess a person could free float the fore end from the barrel if they wanted.

As far as trigger pull, I'll leave that up to the experts.

BTW, my .308 shoots very well.

P.S. MolonLabe, welcome. It's good to see more TFL/THR alumni.
