I am looking at using a Charles Daly 30/06 action to build a new 9.3x62. The price tag looks reasonable for a brand new mauser style action $235.00 shipped. I have seen the complete rifles but I have never seen the unbarreled actions. The complete rifles look pretty good. A little rough metal work on the inside and the blueing looks thin. But other wise nice. Has anyone here used one of these actions for a build? What kind of problems did you run into? Is there another option in the same price range that I have over looked? Thanks for the help..

They are the same as the old Mark X Mauser action from Yugoslavia. Whether the craftsmanship on the new ones is better/worse/same as the old, the action design is a good one (basic sporter '98). Lots of custom rifles have been built on the Mark X with the degree of success and quality commensurate with the skill of the gunsmith who does the work.

There have been a bunch of previous posts on the Daly if you want to look them up. I've got a 458 Win built on the Daly action with a Douglas barrel. It's a very good action for the price. Mine took just a little dremel work on the rails to make it feed 100% but haven't had any problems with it at all. I've got the KG Gunkote finish on mine and it looks pretty decent too.

I did a search for Charles Daly and found only two threads on the subject. I appreciate the input though. This will be my first build on a commercial action. I have used military actions for two other builds. For the price the commercial action looks like it would be a good alternative. A good 98 mauser rifle with no pitting is running about $125-$150. Then buying a Timney or Boyds trigger, bolt handle, etc. It quickly gets in the $200 range.
So if I can use the Charles Daly action with no suprises it would be a lot easier and quicker. Just like everybody else I don't have all the free time in the world. But I am still open for suggestions.

I think you're going in the right direction. I've got a custom 275 Rigby on a VZ24 action that I dearly love now, but it did cost a bit more than the 458 on the Daly action.

I'm building a .375 H&H on a Daly action. I had to fix the floor plate so that it locked closed and I had to do some minor alterations to the extrtactor to stop it from push feeding the cartridge. It seems to be working fine now but it has also been my experience that their warranty is worthless......if you buy an action you fix it and make it work.
