<Axel>How much to remove a CZ550 barrel??
Which hand threads are they using, right or left?
How tight are the barrels?
How easy is it to accidently damage the action during barrel removal?
Do I need to apply heat to the action/barrel junction to ease removal?
Thanks,
Axel

<t_bob38>From your questions, I would say that you are an accident waiting to happen. Save some money and possibley your life and take your project to a competent gunsmith. If you really have to do it yourself, enroll in a gunsmithing college and complete the course first.

Bill LeeperRight hand thread.
How tight? Damn tight!
Can the receiver be damaged? You bet!
Apply heat? No.
Make a wrench the fits the receiver fairly well.(outside) You don't want this wrench to simply clamp top and bottom but to fit.
The barrel vise should be solidly mounted. Regards, Bill.

<Axel>Bill,
Thank you VERY MUCH for the information. These questions sound stupid, but I want to understand as much as possible about this BEFORE I get started.
Are the Wheeler action wrenches any good? Who makes/sells the best action wrench?
Judging from your comments, I would suspect that investing in the lead plates for the barrel vise is a MUST. Is this an accurate assumption? Is there something better than the lead?
Thanks again,
Axel

D HumbargerI machine my own aluminum barrel bushings. When used with rosin they will not mar the bluing.
