Need some help. Have a Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag.It had a 7" barrel and I had Ruger put a 4"on I gave the gun to my son he would like the
7" back on for a scope.I called Ruger and they said they would not put the original 7" back on.They would put a new one on.Anyone know why you cannot use the original barrel? Can a barrel be changed in a vise? Thanks Walt

Some Rugers are very hard to break loose the barrel.

The original barrel might not go back on.....it depends on how they adjusted the barrel/cylinder gap when they installed the new barrel. If the new barrel was too long in the shank the factory might have turned some off the ratchet and rear of the cylinder to move the cylinder back, or they might have cut some off the barrel to fit it.

You can try to break it loose by inletting a couple hardwood blocks to fit the barrel leaving a gap between them of about an eighth inch. Use powdered rosin on both blocks and tighten down the vice three grunts tight. Use a hammer handle through the action and jerk on it instead of a steady pull.

Contender, hope I got this right: Ruger put a different length barrel on your ruger?

Everytime I have called them they say they will not do any custom work...tell me how you did it..?

beltloop, I called Ruger and told them I had a 7"barrel and wanted a
4" and they said yes and the cost 3 years ago was $88.00 now as of last week it is $125.00 to put a 7" and
reblue the gun.

JBelk, Thanks I will give it a try.
