What you have there is a pre-war M70 standard grade rifle. Not sure on the value because of the early serial number but a later model of the same type will typically bring $550-$750 in above average condition.

Matt, go to GunsAmerica and check the listings for sale. There are usually a couple vintage model 70's there The '06 is the probably the most common caliber. You will have to determine if it is one of the factory fancy alternatives which raises the value some. Also, the long actions, .300 and .375 H&H are probably more valuable. My grandfather left me his .300 H&H and the sentimental value far outweighs the intrinsic value. good luck [This message has been edited by Patrick (edited 12-12-2001).]

Your gun should be a pre-war gun, not a pre 64, it should have a clover leaf tang...As described it is worth about $600.00 give or take a fifty dollar bill....depending on condition which is everything in collectable guns. If it is in absolute new, minty condition it would bring $1000 and up. ------------------
