Is a 32 gauge shotgun the same as a 410?

I would say a 32 guage is a .526 Sorry the columns don't line up. That is Guage, bore in MM and then inches.

Notes:

In some cases it is customary to state the diameter directly in inches: a ".410 gauge" shotgun, more properly called .410 bore, has a bore diameter of 0.41 inch. This measurement is really the caliber rather than a gauge.
The gauge number is intended to be the number of lead balls per pound, the balls being of a size that will just fit into the barrel



The .410 Bore

The nominal bore of a .410 shotgun is.410 inch. Which is why it is properly called the .410 bore instead of the .410 gauge. In Europe it is sometimes called the 12mm, which is an inaccurate designation as a .410 bore has an actual diameter of approximately 10.4mm by metric measure. If the .410 had been named in the traditional fashion, by the number of lead balls .41 inch in diameter needed to make one pound, it would be about a 67-68 gauge. Many years ago it was also called the 36 gauge, and I have seen a picture of an old box of Remington shells marked "(36 GA.) .410-2 1/2 IN. (12 MM)." However, the "36 Gauge" designation was very inaccurate, as a true 36 gauge gun would actually have a .506 inch bore diameter.

If my memory serves me correctly, they are not the same. 32 lead balls which would weigh 1 lb.
As you probably know the 410 is not a gauge in the true sense but a caliber designation. Sure somebody with facts will respond and would like to know for sure myself.

I came in one minute late, but the posting above mine gives more data than I did. It would be interesting to see a side by side or over and under in the 32 gauge for it would certainly be on the streamlined side!! Doubt it would weigh more than 4.5lbs. Anyone got any photos of such a shotgun you would be willing to share??

no.....a .410 is close to a 50 gauge!

The red Fiochi is a 32ga, the green one above it is a 24ga. the 3 brass with plastic shot capsuls are 44mag, and the 2 big brass ones are 12ga From Hell rounds.

The .410 is the caliber designation. It is a 64 gauge.
