Inletting Talley Swivel Bases

Hello Folks

My Talley sling swivel bases finally arrived . . . some time after I've finished the rest of the stock.

Does anyone have a foolproof method of doing the inlet for these. I haven't got very many chisels, and certainly none that would enable me to cut a radius that matches the ends of the bases.

All ideas gratefully recieved.

Thanks - Foster

Yup, Bridgeport and a 5/16 end mill. DRO is handy also.

tentman,
There's an excellent article in the ACGG mag (authored by one of the regulars here, Duane Wiebe, IIRC) about inletting bases with a dremel/router. Of course, the pro's make it look easy, but maybe Duane will drop in and comment.

Personally, I view this as an opportunity to buy a new, small radius, high quality chisel.
It can be done by hand, if you're not in a hurry.

Ok, since a man's got to know his limitations, what would be an average price to have the swivel inletting done once I got the action bedding and glassing done? If I should PM instead, let me know.

I would have to say about $45 plus the swivels and return shipping.

Thanks Jim! If I ever get my bedding right I'll send you an email. I know you don't do PM. Smiler
