I found a FN Mauser action in 30-06 today and was wondering if it could be converted to a 375 The action is an FN JC Penny's action and looked like it was in good shape, and if it could it be converted to a 375, it'd be a good donor action. Thanks in advance for the info. Best regards, Bill

Yes it can. If I were going to do it I would buy a 375 trigger guard and mag box from Blackburn or similar and then lengthen the reciever as needed. There are lots of others on here with much more exprience than I have but this is what I found to be the easiest.

the answer is yes....but I'd look at the interarms or Chas Daly mausers first.....it's the same as you'll wind up with but at a lot less cost. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I'm very partial to commercial FNs and believe they are the finest 98 Mausers ever made so I concur with what El Caballero said. Or you could take Vapodog's advice and get a close facsimile and save some money by buying a Zastava Mark X Interarms Whitworth or Alaskan or the current Daly versions. I have a Whitworth and like it very much. Don't let anyone tell you the actions aren't strong enough because some metal has to be relieved from the feed ramp to accommodate the longer cartridge. fla3006, I agree about commercial FN's competely these really nice actions. If I was going to open on up open front and rear equally, then all the metal isn't out of ther front. Before I jumped into the bottom metal I would change the safety though to one on the bolt shroud, or do both and you have a very fine rifle action.

Schromf, if I'm not mistaken, all the aftermarket magazines (Blackburn, Sunny Hill, etc.) take metal off the ring and not the back like they should. Probably the only way you could do it your way (which I believe is the right way) is to make your own magazine. I could be wrong about the others, but my Sunny Hill and Mark X both take it all out of the front. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. I talked to Ted Blackburn A couple of days ago he said his 375H&H bottom metal/mag thkes most out from back less and than .100 in front. It's what I will be using. Allen It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.

Forrest, I went through this a long time ago trying to get a new bottom for my Mk X and no one currently making bottom metal has one that fits the 375 MK X action. They all open primarily to the back. That is probably a good thing, even though I tend to defend the Mk X magnum action to the death in these discussions. I have it from a pretty reliable source that the original Mauser's were opened up 6mm front and rear. Or equally. QUestion I have is the Interarms replacement metal the one that is hard to find? I know I was at my smith talking and we were discussing a trade on a Interarms action which had all been opened up forward ( factory ) for a 375 H&H, I didn't like that and wasn't in a real need for another action anyway. We were going through parts and working details on my upcoming 404 Jeff project, this one is even harder cause it needs to be wider to boot. And bottom metal is the real issue on that cartridge.
