Grendel feeding problems

I own a Grendel SRT-20 and I'm experiencing some feeding problems when the magazine is loaded with anything more than 5 or 6 rounds.

The first round is "jamming" against the top of the receiver as it begins to feed over the feed ramp and binds. This isn't a problem with rounds loaded with 150 gr. bullets as their shorter length seems to allow more room for the round to clear the ramp, but longer bullets (168 SMK) will contact the top of the receiver every time (unless you have less than 6 rounds loaded).

I thought about stoning the top of the ramp down a bit so it wasn't so sharp but was hoping to get some advice from someone who may have come across this before prior to doing so.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ralph

I've never seen or heard of a Grendel, but it sounds like it has a detachable magazine and is push feed?

If so, change magazines. The feed ramp in such guns direct the cartridges up and towards the center only....the magazine lips, spring and follower does everything else.

A magazine problem is very likely, as JBelk said, but these guns sometimes do need a little Dremel work to get them functioning properly. I'd check the underside of the slide and the feed ramp for burrs too. A good buffing might cure the problem? I think the slide could possibly be a culprit if the problem decreases with a decrease in spring tension (less than 6 rounds).

JBelk,

I apologize for not giving more info. on the rifle. The Grendel (SRT-20) is a tactical rifle built on a Sako AII action. The magazine is integral to the synthetic stock and has a capacity of 9. I believe the follower is also synthetic (carbon fiber?). I have not owned the rifle for very long but I can tell you it will shoot circles around the Remington PSS I shot when I was still in law enforcement. Anyways, hope that helps. Looking forward to hearing from you guys.

My money is on a mag problem. Sounds to me like heavy spring pressure is forcing the mag lips apart as the cartridge is fed, allowing the nose to rise too soon.

After seeing your amplification, this is not something I would care to touch. Get the maker to fix it.

Here, I thought this Grendel was one of these little cheap semi pistols that aren't finished all that well. [Embarrassed] I wasn't aware of a Grendel tactical rifle??? I'll have to pull out the bible and get edjumicated.

What's the caliber, BTW?
