This has been a source of confusion for me for a while. Is there a major difference that will prevent them from fitting a MK X action to a stock made for a Mauser 98? I've noticed some companies list one for a 98 and another fitting a Mk X. Where are they different, or is it just in barrel profile? I have a feeling it may be in the floorplate area. If so, is it easy to make it work, or a major job?

Often a 98 has just a barrel starter groove. A MKX and Daly will usually be set up for the normal sliding safety. Big issue is normally the front tang on the trigger guard. The 98 is often longer because of the lock screw. I've seen a lot of the 98 stocks lately being made with the shorter tang to allow using the aftermarket and other no locking guards. Ask the dealer they should know or the seller of the distance in front of the front hole.

In the case of the Daly/MKX the Daly contour is slightly less than the MKX. I've used a Daly on a MKX stock. The barrel is pretty much freefloated from the start. Doesn't look bad. Using a MKX in a Daly stock just requires removing a little more wood.

As usual just my $.02

I have noticed that the newer CD rifles have a lighter barrel profile, but that of course is no big deal. I had a feeling just from eyeballin it that something was different in the floorplate area, but didn't have a military action to compare, just FN's and MK X and they looked the same. Your explanation explains why some stocks show the same one for both, if a military action, it would have to be opened up a bit, if made to drop in a military action, there would be a gap on a Mk X.

you're right about that. The front tang on the bottom metal is different than military or commercial Mauser. Very close to the FN but They won't always interchange. My early Mk X will not fit into a pre-war FN stock. Too wide at the rear of the box by a hair. Also, the trigger inletting is different bu both are an easy fix. Just don't expect tight inlettling on the corners.
