Whats my odds of getting a new barrel from Remington to replace the POS they have on a Classic 8 x 57 I just purchased? The throat and bore are terrible. Had I looked thru the bore upon purchase, I never would have bought it, but, "haste makes waste", and I was in too big a hurry. Dumb me. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

If it's as you say it is, return the gun to Remington and they'll replace it. It's wise to call customer service first as they may require you have an RGA number. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." My local Remington Warrenty dealer is going to send it in, so he should have a number. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

At first when my barrel arrived at Remington they refused a new barrel. They said it was because I damaged it with a cleaning rod. I then called a supervisor and she overuled it. She was willing to give me a barrel, but then found out they did not have a new 8 x 57 barrel to give me as it was a Classic limited run. So they are going to give me a new 30-06 instead. They were quite nice about once I got to the right people. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

What kind of damage could there have been that would have made someone at Remington think it was done during cleaning?

The throat was in terrible shape, and to the "untrained" eye, it looked like an contaminated over-size bore brush repeatedly scrached it. I explained that I only used a Nylon brush, and that the tech needed an education, to which she agreed. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

It's good t see that Remington is getting a bit of positive publicity as they need a bit of that after all the negative I've read about them lately. Someone there still has a brain and can use it! /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I am seriously NOT trying to stir the pot, but if they have one, I would have asked for a 35 Whelen barrel, only because I have 2 of the 30-06s now. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

I DID try for a 35 Whelen, but they did not have one of those either. Actually I could have had a 30-06, 25-06 or 270 it did not matter. I needed a 22" 270 Win even less than I needed a 30-06, and had no use for a 25-06 at all. Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.

You could always sell the barrel off of it and have it rebarreled as something else. Red My rule of life prescribed as an absolutely sacred rite smoking cigars and also the drinking of alcohol before, after and if need be during all meals and in the intervals between them. -Winston Churchill

Terry, CDNN Investments www.cdnninvestments.com has these in their latest catalogue at $450. Sounds like you might be able to rebarrel with the 06 and sell it, buy one of these now and not be too deep in the hole if you still want to play with one in 8mm.
