I have received a complete original 1884 trapdoor action. I'm thinking about a .45-70 blackpowder cartridge rifle. What to do now? ______________________ Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

Not to slight any of the fine folks here, but you might want to pose this question over on the single shot rifle forum. http://www.assra.com/cgi-bin/yabb/yabb.pl It would also help to know what the intended use of it would be. Hunting, competition, fun (opps they are all that)? Thaine "Begging hands and bleeding hearts will always cry out for more..." Back when the trapdoor was in service, custom gunmakers made some nice rifles on the Trapdoor action. Springfield Armory also made some nice Officers Model rifles with engraving, tang sight and a wooden ramrod under the barrel. As Thine said need to know what you want the rifle for. If a sporting rifle is your idea I’ll post a picture of one I like.

Yes! I'd love to see some pics of other projects. The main purpose of this project is hunting and perhaps some long range shooting for fun. ______________________ Are you gonna pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?

There have been many custom makers (still are) using the trapdoor action. One of my favorites pictured below is Carlos Gove of Denver, Colorado who died in 1900. This rifle at one time belonged to a friend, the pictures are from the auction (forgot which one) catalog.
