can anyone here tell me how to get the fore end disassembled on a model 37 Ithaca,it looks like there may be threads in the end cap,but you cant turn it because of the way its on(there is a notch in it)the only thing I can think of is it has a left hand thread on 1 end and a right hand thread on the other, that means a special tool may be needed.can anyone help. thanks in advance for any info

Open the action and screw the cap down, clockwise, towards the butt and then turn the barrel counter clockwise and take it out of the receiver.

Now turn the cap off counterclockwise.

I got the fore end off, what I need to do is get the parts inside the punp out,I cant unscrew the cap on the end of the fore end off because it wont turn with out damageing the wood, there is a notch of wood that extends out into the end cap,I am refinishing the stock and need to get the fore end disassembled,so I can reblue the metal parts and refinish the wood, all the other parts are done, the pump part is my only hold up now,It seems to be threaded but like I said I cant turn the end cap on the end of the pump without damageing the wood,I think it may require a special tool, any info would be a help

The notches on the endring are for a tool to unscrew it. Find a piece of flat steel (an old steel rule, etc) that will fit the notches and simply turn the endring off using the piece of steel as a wrench. The ring is undercut and fits over the wood a little bit. If there was a notch of wood to lock the ring on how did the factory put it on? You may shave a small amount of wood that has swelled into the barrel cut but that won't hurt anything. Depending on how old the gun is, the ring may be tight, but it will turn off. After that the wood will slide straight off(don't twist it) the forend tube. Good luck.
