Looking for info one these- I saw one for sale today. It is an 06 - I believe the barrel was marked 30 govt 06 like on old Winchesters. It had a decent replacement stock. It had the enfield style safety, but the bolt was more like a 1903. Is this a cobbled together rifle and what would the value of the action be- the metal is in good shape.

Are you sure that it is a Mod 34? They were a rimfire. Sounds like a model 30.

Yes, I'm sure it was a Model 1934. I have foung other references to this model in old posts, but the other posts mentioned that these were 7 mm military contract models and did not mention values for the action. It looked like it would make a nice project. I can probably pick it up for $350.

Without digging out the books I believe that Remington made about 3,000 Model 1934's for Honduras in 7x57 these were built on the Remington 30S action. Don’t know about any in 30-06 but would be well worth investigating.

The Rem 1934 was basically an M1917 without ears, with M1903-style sights, chambered for the 7x57mm and sold to Honduras. It may have been known at the factory as the Model 40. It is thought that a 7.65mm version was made for Argentina. In any event, an original one would be quite costly as only 3000 or so were built.

Not very many months ago, a Rem. Model 34 was offered in the classifieds. Looked it up in some resource data and as pointed out, was a military contract rifle based on the Model 30 action. Value would be entirely to the collector, but would think the dollar amount you feel you could buy it for would be a good one if for no other reason the rarity, oddity of the rifle??

I forgot to ask... is the M1934 action cock-on-close, like the P13, 14, M1917 and Rem 30, or cock-on-open, like the Rem 30 Express?

I believe that it is cock on opening. I went back to look at it yesterday. I was mistaken on some details- I had just taken my dog in for surgery and was in a haze. It has been rebarreled to 6mm (I assume Rem). The stock looked nice. It had 3 mount holes, the front hole had something in it. I passed because I don't really need someone else's project.
