montea6bDarkening a white line spacer?
I know, I know, don't use them. Sell it and get another one...
But, my niece sort of likes the white line on the red butt pad I got from an estate through a friend, and the stock I'm putting it on has maple spacers at the tip and grip cap, so it is consistent with the theme. However, the maple is blonder already, and will darken somewhat with the oil. This spacer is plastic, and glaring white. I'd just like it to roughly match, but I don't think it's likely absorbent.
Is there anything that might stain or dye it to a more acceptable tint?
If you are using maple spacers on the tip and grip cap why not use one with a red or black pad without a white line.

eagle27If you take the gloss off the edge of the spacer i.e. slightly roughen, I think you will find the plastic will retain colour from stain or dye. Nothing to lose by trying.

BobsterGo to your local Dollar Tree store and buy a pack of furniture touch-up felt pens. Get the one with the black pen included ($1.50). This is a permanent dye with a sealer added to it. Sand the edge of the spacer as previously described and apply.

montea6bHad a text chat and exchanged some photos with her last night, switching to brown with a black base plate. I think we will both be happier in the long run!

jeffeossoi was thinking more of light sanding and using the instant coffee trick to dye it... or using a heat gun to age it
Nothing says quality like dyed plastic spacers.

Uncle GrinchI replaced the white spacer on one of my Marlins with a piece of black kydex that I bought at Grainger.
