I have a Ruger 96/17HMR lever action rifle and was wondering if I could purchase a 96/22 Magnum barrel and put it on without a gunsmith.Would I need to headspace it or would it fall into place?Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with this particular item but what I would do, if I didn't get a qualified response from this group, is to call Ruger and pose the question to their technical department. This may not get you anywhere because Ruger thinks they are the only ones who can do anything, but it's worth a try if nothing else pans out. Good luck.
