My Reminton Model 870 has a gritty heavy trigger pull (Axel, an 870 is a shotgun). Is a trigger job feasible for a do-it-yourself project (by someone who needs to ask)?

Thanks,

H. C.

In a word, NO. THat trigger system (Crittenden Common Fire Control) uses a recapture angle sear on a hammer hook. They can be unsafe without alteration and almost SURE to be dangerous if they're changed.

Thanks,

I guess I'll just learn to live with it. I never found it to be a problem until I started trying to shoot slugs.

I don't recall the cost, but I do remember seeing a replacement 870 trigger assembly in a Brownell's catalog a year or two ago(possibly still). It was a do it yourself replacement -- as you would excpect, you punch out the two crosspins and change the entire trigger/shell lifter assembly.

The replacement trigger was indeed marketed as a way to get a good trigger on slug guns.

Thanks. I don't think I can use the replacement, but I'll check Brownell's anyway. I was born with a severe birth defect that makes me unable to use most cool shooting accessories and about 95% of bolt action rifles. They don't know why, but my shooting eye is in the left socket. I'm currently using an orthopedic trigger group that Remington produces under the Americans with Disabilities Act. It allows me to operate the safety by pushing that little button from left to right.
