I'd trust Hill Country Rifles again in a heartbeat to rebarrel/accurize a .300 Wby I have in Mark V configuration. However, were I to opt for simply spinning a 7mm Weatherby magnum barrel onto it (instead of the pillar bedding, guaranteed factory ammo load 1 MOA deal at HCR), who is a likely 'smith? Less than 6-month turn-around time and not sending through the post appeals. I have driven to Bobby Pitchford's for work before, and am fully satisfied with what he's done. Just would rather not drive all the way to Kickapoo Road if there' a good candidate closer to me. Thanks! Barry _______________________

Pete at Precision Barrel Work in Hempstead is one recommend. That's further than Bobby, but he sounds great and we talked turkey. He MIGHT have an opening for new work in April. We'll see -- not in a hurry, and I've found a fairly good deal on stuff ordered at Midway for work with a new barrel whenever -- Federal load with Trophy Bonded Tip 160's, RCBS dies and loose 160 TBT's. Capital Cartridge north of Houston has mixed stamp range brass available in enough lots that I can sort for load workups. (Got 25-shell lot of Weatherby and R-P for the old barrel in .300 Wby Mag. Cleaned but not sized or deprimed, but for far less than new brass and it looks good. Too bad the barrel acts shot out now!) Just a box of plain Jane .300 Wby Mag R-P loaded ammo is 77 bucks on the shelf. Midway's Federal offering in 7mm Wby Mag was 56 bucks to my door and even less as part of a 100 buck order discount that basically covered the shipping. Some loaded Norma/Weatherby ammo is 68 bucks for just Nosler BT's!! FYI _______________________
