Just bought a Left-Hand Ruger KM77-II magnum (which is the short magnum/.30/06 length...only one Ruger will make for us lefties despite William B. Ruger being left-handed). Can this action be opened up? Is there a magazine box available for slightly lengthened cartridges? I'm trying to get more cartridge seating room.

prof242 It is not feasable to lengthen the M 77 magazine. This is due to the design of the box and the reciever. If you look at the reciever just in front of the magazine box. You will see a small angled boss, this is to keep the box in place during recoil. There is no room to go to the back as the screw is there to hold the guard in place. Then if you take the box out of the reciever you will see that the top lips of the box is formed inwards to create the side movement of the case before it contacts the top of the rails that are machined. The M 77 was designed for that length of cartidges only. No thought was given to making it just a little longer. That is why they had to design the big Magnum action.
