Does anyone here know of a good source for the Sherwin Williams Polene Paint. The dealer here in my area only offers it in 5 gallon quantities that are all one color. I'd like to find three gallons that are different colors. I've heard good things about polene. Does anyone here use Polene and what do you think of it. Stuart Satterlee TIMAN

My custom gunstock painter is a fan of Polane[sp]. I have a 300SAUM built on a Predator receiver. An all stainless rifle with matte black metal work and black Polane synthetic stock. It is as close to a bullet proof paint as I could find. Butch

Have you talked with Sherwin Williams headquarters about Polane T finishes? Maybe this outfit can steer you in the right direction. http://www.gtrmfg.com/paintshop.htm

Stuart, Unless I'm mistaken, Duracoat is Polane repackaged; might give them a holler and see if there's anything they could do for you. Or, are there any coatings companies in your area? Otherwise, you might contact Sherwin Williams customer service. There's somebody in your area that can meet your needs and I have no doubt they'll know who. Stuart - Polane T is the coating used by many custom synthetic stockmakers as their coating of choice. I know that the Rimrock stocks are painted with it and that it was used on the H-S Precision stocks that I have. Tex21 is correct in that Duracoat is Polane T repackaged. Polane T is sold by the Sherwin-Williams Industrial Division and, though the S-W website on shows a limited number of standard colors, it can be made in most any color that you want it in. They have a one gallon minimum and the last that my company bought about 6 months ago cost about $180/gallon. I have about 15 years of experience using Polane T on various railroad equipment projects and it is a tough and durable coating. Depending on your application, there may be better coatings to use than Polane T. TreeFarmer NRA Life Member Moderation in the pursuit of decadence is no virture.

McMillan uses Polane on their stocks. I will try and run down the stock numbers for the gray, brown, black and olive that McMillan uses. Duracoat is Polane, as Tex21 mentions above. Rick Bin on 24 hour campfire (I get all tingly when they talk about us AR snobs) uses Polane as well. You and he are feeding from quite different schools of fish, so he might share some knowledge with you. If I ever get a truck worth more than the cost of painting it, I might paint it with Polane. I've got the color choice narrowed down to either flat olive drab or glossy magenta with a teal trim color. LD

Stuart, If you need enough for a rifle, I will have my painter send you a pint with hardner. He said that he would give it to you. E-mail me at papawlambert@starband.net with a shipping address. Butch
