Had my office manager's husband bird-dogging for me at the local pawn shop and came up with what appears to be a gem.

1955 pre-64 model 70 featherweight in 270. Going to pick her up tonight for the price of $350.00.

Can't beat a deal like that ehh??

I'll post pics tomorrow if time allows, which I'm sure it will. thumb

Dang Matt. eek2 Your a lucky dog clap. Just so you don't get the big head though, I picked up a prestine 09 Argintine a couple months ago for $150 at a pawn shop. There are still deals out there if you look. Good luck.

That's a great deal. I'd be happier than a pig in mud if I could get just the action for that price.

I made one of my best deals off a dealer to boot on my 1939 mod-70 300h-h--asked him is that an h-h and he told me it was a 300win--he said it was way better than one of them old ones. I picked it up and it was a prewar that said 300 magnum on the barrell it had the stock cut for a pad--only fault--when he came to the conclusion it wasnt as new as he thought he came down from 600 to 425--true story just lucky i was there when the doors opened.

Matt,

What is his commission? For a deal like that, surely a nice dinner and bottle of wine. Wink

Terry

This spring I was traveling through Owatana (sp)Minnesota and so when I saw the Cabela's sign I decided to stop in and run the racks. Was looking at the used rifle rack and noticed a mauser so picked up the rifle to take a look and here it was a rather pristine G.33/40 with its original barrel but with a bubba'd military stock. Action in just beautiful condition. They wanted $310.00 for it. I asked the gun manager to give me a deal becasue of the condition of the stock and he knocked off $35.00, so I got it for $275.00.

Well, here she is......

Bolt handle sucks, but as you can see in the picture, having a CNC lathe doesn't hurt when you're ready to replace them either.... Wink

Somebody spent a great deal of time making the finished product look very close to a turd.....Luckily it will work perfect for the donor action. Anything other than that would have been a pure goldmine for that price.

So far, so good from what I can tell.

She'll get the acid test tomorrow on the rest of the guts...Kinda anxious to get on this one, since it has the standard bolt face. Picked one up a couple of years ago for $250.00, but it had the bolt face opened up for a 30-338. It was done well, but not really what I was looking for. That one was a 1957 model...not too shabby either, but this one has a 280 AI written all over it I think. Maybe a 25-06...who knows.

Actually, He's getting a new rifle off of our actions, along with one for both of his teenage boys and his wife....He don't mind bird-dogging for that.

Actually, it's kinda funny when he called me.
He said "how can you tell a pre-64 from a "classic" action?"
I told him to look for the roll markings on the receiver ring, the tapped hole that goes completely through the rear tang, and asked what bottom metal was on it. He said it's aluminum....that made me ask what did the barrel contour look like....Well that was kinda hard to decipher over the phone, but I figured it out to be a featherweight that someone took some more material off of for a youth or woman shooter. The stock has also been shortened as well.

Like I said earlier.....lotta turd polishing going on there. It's ashame when you can find how someone wasted so much time on a finished rifle that without knowing for sure what you were looking at would make ya wanna puke.
Lucky for me though....the action will work just fine and the stock should do well for "camp wood" next weekend. beer

Been pondering the idea........

I've been running blanks out like that for the last couple of days, trying to get the profile I liked for our bolt handle. What you see is what we've settled on.

You can buy those direct from us for $7.25 plus shipping. These will be a online catalog item in the very near future.
