Can anybody explain whats involved installing an after market barrel band on an already blued barrel?

I assuse they are silver soldered on? If so, how is it done to keep damage to the bluing to a minimum?

Regards,

Pete

Actually you soft solder them on. I've been told that some are using epoxy though I haven't tried.

To Do it without reblueing, you should take a Dremel tool and make a few "rings" inside the band, clean the barrel with actone, and use JB weld. Clean off any that oozes out before the glue hardend. (I'd blue the band first of course)
Should hold forever.

Russ,

To soft solder, would it mean that the bluing has to be removed first?

buchsenschmeid,

Would there be any problems using JB weld (or similar) from the heat of the barrel? I seem to recall epoxy often softens its grip when heated,

regards,

Pete
