Finaly putting my recently rebarreled pre-64 together after a new Shilen select, action blueprint and stock bedding. I have been reading Tubbs website touting his cocking piece, chrome moly springs and lightweight firing pins greatly reducing locktime and action movement. I need to (at least) replace the 50+ yr old pin and spring anyway and wondering if any of you have purchasec this ($100) set-up and had ??? what results. Was it worth the bucks? Experiences appreciated

I have used the Tubbs set up on 3 different rifles now and love them. They have been on 2 M700 competition rifles and now a M700 tactical rig. But they just dont come any better. Buy one and use it, you will be glad you did.

I put one on my post 64 Win M70 Match rifle, and had the new stronger spring override the sear if I wiggled the bolt knob. Emailed the Tubb Co., to warn them about this, and got back some form letter type reply that a "qualified gunsmith" should install these. Figured out that slop in the bolt and cocking piece was the culprit, shimmed the bolt and the problem went away. So watch out, if your Win has vertical slop in the bolt and shroud.

They matter with j-lock bolts especially. I have used them on my match rifles too. I have used many brands of aftermarket set-ups and they all work better than factory. The one thing I can say that I notice most is the consistency of trigger pull feel. Even with a jewell trigger, the trained finger can feel the increase in consistency.
