wilsonsmwBreaking in an NEW Rifle Barrel
I am buying a MRC .325WSM this summer and was wondering what everybody thought would be the best way to break in the barrel. Could not find much in the archives. Thanks

ElCaballeroShoot it till you get tired. Then go to the house and clean it.
Repeat as often as possible.

Rick 0311I would think a search of the archives on here would keep you busy for a week just reading the posts on this topic.

craigsterUse the "find" icon at the top of the page. In the "search box" enter the keyword phrase "barrel break in". You'll find at least 528 points of view on the topic. My advise? I concour with The Horseman and vapodog.
Me Too Just shoot it clean it when you feel like it needs it. My new Savage 40 Hornet.
I took it out and ran 50 rounds thru it
, took it home filled it with Wipeout and left it over nite. Barely any green stuff. Did it again and no green. Maybe I got lucky, but my savage 223 was just like it.

tin canme too- I sighted in a .221 a few weeks back, had such a good time I forgot all about the break in thing and ran a box and a half through it.
It shot very well, and I don't think I'm in any trouble

A old frend of mine (PO Ackly)I was all of about 13 -16yrs old at the time told me go shoot the D*&^ thing.

The only thing I worry about in hand lapped barrels is the how the throat was cut and smoothing out that. Read Krieger's website on barrel break in, it's very informative.

What Krieger describes is not unique to hand lapped barrels.
IMHO ELC hit it right on the head. Here's the link to a previous discussion on this. My post is Gail McMillians opinion and a history of how he describes the break-in BS starting.

1894mk2My meticulously broken in Shilens foul much worse than my 'shoot a box to sight in and check accuracy before cleaning and hunting' Border barrel....
This thread is music to my ears!
