On a sporterized M98, that is. Could someone tell me what the pros and cons of each one are? Thanks.

One-piece bases are exceptionally ugly. Buts thats just one mans opinion. http://www.facebook.com/profil...p?id=100001646464847 A.M. Little Bespoke Gunmakers LLC 682-554-0044 Michael08TDK@yahoo.com

1 pc bases are very popular with the "sporterizing" crowd because they can be installed with the charger hump intact. Also, they require one less hole be drilled & tapped. That said, Leupold and other now make 2 piece bases that will install with the hump in place. I prefer 2 piece bases on hunting rifles as they obscure the loading/ejection port less. Well, and they look better as Aaron said. Aut vincere aut mori

It really depends on what type of one-piece base you're referring to. Generally, I find two-piece bases to be a better all around fit for a sporterized Mauser. They give you a little more access to loading area and look a little better since the top of a Mauser is fairly open. I did put a one-piece Weaver rail type mount on one Mauser I put together but that's because I alternate between different types of optics depending on what I'm after. The rail makes it easier to go from a short red-dot to a long scope. Jason "Chance favors the prepared mind."

Thanks, gentlemen. I agree on the asthetics issue, which is why I assumed there must have been some inherent advantage to the 1-piece base that I was missing. Thanks for 'splaining it.
