It should be easy to see what's wrong with it. Why does the guy just keep showing the failure to extract?

Another quality Kimber in action.

My money is on another CRF vs. Pushfeed debate.

I told this story before.

Buddy orders a Kimber Lightweight 30/06 online.
It won't feed RN ammo.
Send to Kimber. they return it.. nothing wrong.
Still won't feed factory RN.
He pays the "restocking fee" and return shipping to the dealer.

Looks like they bought Remington's 710 stock injection moulds.

Yep it's plastic. The best one I've ever looked over for the fit of stock to steel. It is nice in the hands... but it is indeed an injection molded stock.

$400/$500 cheaper then a Montana

So, since you're posting in the "Gunsmithing Forum" what's wrong with it?

I recently "worked over" three Montana's with about the same problem.

Extractors were all too loose..Folks at Montana said to bend the extractor to provide more grip...that had to be a joke..Yes, I could bend the extractor but the but the inside of the extractor rubbed the lug and even if I had acrtually ground down the lug, the guide slot kept it from providing more tension to the case.

There was a really whopping gap between the rear of the extractor and the bolt face so that there was about .050 gap between the case head and bolt face.

The extractor is a casting, has no "life" or "spring"to it upon trying the bending technique.

The half assed fix was to allow the bolt to come further back by filing back the bolt stop and removing most of the rounded top corner of the ejector.

I found new M-70 extractors also cast, but they gave a just a little bit extra "grip" to the case head and fitted up without too much trouble

They now work well, but my lesson in life is that life is too short to work on shit like this. Sounds like Kimber may be in he same category

It's always been my experience, that it's difficult to attempt vast projects, when you're given half-vast materials to work with in the first place !

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

Duane: Brand new actions, shouldn't have happened. An invoice stating keys words like inoperable, not to spec., forced to order and install a replacement part from Winchester, time spent ordering, putting all 3 projects on hold, etc. are fair and honest charges. Don't hold back. Shucks, might even get a check or at least some replacement extractors.

I don't know much about welding so I will ask the question.
Can cast steel be welded? I ask because if it could, then could a small dab of weld be put on the underside of the extractor where it grips the casehead so there was a tighter fit?

Yes it could be micro welded as small as a .010 bead but it would be by far easier to just replace the part

Well, I'm glad I decided to build my daughters 280 AI on a vintage Remington 700 versus buying a new Kimber. Whew, that was close!

Which is why if I'm hunting people that shoot back, make mine a push feed.
