I bought a box with a Favorite action and butt stock in it for less than a 5'ver. the falling block has been repaired with brazing rod. I was thinking of melting the brass out and MIG welding the hole up. I know this would mean re-heat treating. What do you think, could I do the heat business at home in my basement shop or should I farm it out, or just leave the brass in, barrel it in 22 and use it for a pest stopper?

I think you might mean “TIG†rather than “MIG“ and unless you have a pretty nice set up in your basement shop...coupled with allot of heat treating experience you would probably be better off having this done by a company that specializes in that procedure.

Mr. Smith

First you need to indentify WHICH Favorite you have.
There are the 1889, 1894, 1915, all of which are pre WW 2.
Then the one in the 70's which was a M71 or 72 depending on the barrel.
And the new model 30.

You can look at an article, asa well as exploded views, that is on our website, http://www.wisnersinc.com

For the prewar models I can think of three different breech blocks. But you can find most used parts on eBay if you look long enough.

I would try to find a used part before trying to weld on those blocks.

Mr Wisner, thanks for the info and the drawings. From them I acertained that I probably have the 1894 model. I probably will look for another breech block before trying to fix the original. I have all of the metal polished and ready for the blueing. Then I have to find a barrel and reproduce the forarm wood. thanks again
