What? I see no reason the 458 Lott cannot be built on a VZ24, its a good Mauser action and the 458 Lott is a full length 375 H&H case and many a 375, 416 Rem, has been made on Mauser acitons!

My opinnion is Yes, its a good action to build a 458 Lott on...most are.

of course, from a good gunsmith.

it runs EXACTLY the same pressure as a 375 HH..

identical bolt thrust as a 300 win

you'll need a good bottom metal, to make the job easier.

IMHO, i like building on the vz ..

guys build 500 jeffes on 1909s .. .

all that being said, there is a 458 AccRel reamer and guages in Oz right now.. and its a darn sight easier to get feeding, and less action whittling

I have a VZ24 barreled action in 458 Lott. The metal work was done by Dennis Olson, so you know that it feeds flawlessly in all positions. bottom metal is one of Jim Wisner's masterpices. It allowed the action to be opened to the rear, which saved a lot of meat in the feed ramp/lower lug.

It is a nice set-up and I would be willing to sell for about half of what I have into it. PM me if interested.

Long magnum chamberings by H&H ,Rigby, were initially built on factory Oberndorf magnum length mauser actions. It was their scarcity after WWII, that saw long magnum rounds being built on std.M98.
If one can live with current factory load lengths for 416 Rigby[3.60"oal] it also fits into stdm98 without requiring any more metal removal from front/rear, than is required for .375H&H.
Bear in mind, that many of the proofed stdM98 .416 Rigbys, eventually came back to Rigby with lug setback issues.
Harry Selbys example,was one of the few that survived not being effected by such.

The .458 Lott case is shorter than 375h&h,... no?
