Nagant 1895 target revolver won't fire

I bought from Tombstone Arms last month a Nagant 1895 target, single action revolver in the 7.62x38 Nagant caliber. It took until this month until I could obtain ammo from Southern Ohio Gun...the HotShot FPJ 98gr variety...new not reloaded.

It won't fire. There is only a very light firing pin indent. As some others suggested, this revolver will also fire 32 S&W Long, and 32 H&R magnum ammo. I tried both and they didn't fire either. The action is free; not gummed up. It seems to function fine other than its main purpose--to actually go bang!

The first thing I thought was to change out the hammer spring. But Gun Parts Corp doesn't list that part.

Any suggestions? It seems Tombstone is out of business. I can't even find Tombstone's phone number to get the owner, M.S. Askins thoughts.

Has anyone had to resort to welding extra length to the firing pin? My pin doesn't look to be broken. What is the correct length?

I don't know how the action of the Nagant revolver works but, on a Smith, if you hold the cylinder release latch in the closed position, cylinder swung out and pull the trigger, the hammer stays in the fired position until you let go of the trigger. Check out the Nagant to see how you can fire it with the cylinder open or removed and check the firing pin protrusion through the recoil shield. It should probably be anywhere from .060" to .080".
If it is'nt enough a good smith can extend it with a TIG machine.

I've seen pics where these other revolver cartridges were fired in the 7.62 charge holes and they only swelled up a little near the extractor groove. To resize, a 30 carbine sizer is used. I've also seen where a 222\223 Rem case is lathe cut to fit the charge hole...the body slimmed down and the bottleneck cut off.

I'm waiting for a new main spring to arrive from milsurp.com. Priority mail seems to take longer than usual from Largo, Florida these days. Supposed to be 2-3 days. It's already been four.

EDIT: Used spring arrived today and cured the problem. The reason it took 5 days was they sent it first class mail instead. Quite a scam they've got going...charge $6.15 for Priority Mail, then spend $1.34 for slowboat from china first class. I doubt I'll be doing business with them again!

4 carriers for you, masterifleman! Only one for me, Enterprise cruise in '68. Squadron RVAH-1, not ship's company.
