Ok, here is the story...Pre-64 M70...30-06 and want it light, so it gets featherweight barrel and McMillan (Echols)really light stock, 4X Leupold....the question and preferences, please: scope mounts!! Current choices include Conetrol, S&K, Weaver bases/some type of rings that are split horizontally or the Brockman pop-up mt....remember: light weight but strong and options for irons, if needed...Please give me some feedback, and yes, 2 ozs DOES matter here...Thank you all in advance, Arthur Olds

Look here. www.millettsights.com

These are strong yet fairly light in weight.

Arthur,

The Weaver mounts have stood the test of time and are as light as it gets. I have had a M70 Classic on a weight reduction regimum. I finished the Bansner stock now and removed the steel Weaver bases and Burris Signature Zee rings and put on Weaver aluminum bases and Weaver Quad Lock rings. Weaver rings are detachable and hold really well.

Here is a pic. of the Quad Locks on a Kimber. I may take pics of the Classic soon as it's finally as light as it can be.
