Want a 9.3x62 but they're hard to come by. So If I had a bolt 06, which would be better to rebore the existing barrel or replace the barrel? Please also comment about actions or anyother pitfall common to this type of project.

I would just rebarrel it...its a pretty simple project, you may have to do a tad of feed work but not usually required.

Decent quality reboring is expensive to the point that it is justified usually when you have a need or desire to keep the original barrel in place. For example if it has a quater or full rib, 1/2 octagon or unusual markings. You can normally rebarrel with a quality barrel for less.
I rebored a Sauer 200 barrel because there was no other alternative but I would rebarrel a Rem 700 in a heartbeat.

As an example I had a shot out pre64 .220 Swift rebored to '06 because I liked the 26" barrel and also because it has a nice stock which the barrel contour fitted. Cost about the same as a new barrel, shoots very well.

What is the alternative? What 9.3-62's are made new? Perhaps the CZ and what else. Such a rifle might cost $600 new and you get a warrantee and everything along with immediate delivery.

If an 06's is bored up to 9.3 there is not going to be much meat left on the barrel walls at the muzzle. What if something goes wrong?

An 06 might be worth $350 as it is all assembled. The boring might cost $300 and take a year or so. Now your up to $650 and it's not blued yet or marked with a caliber.

It just seems like way too much trouble to me.

$705 MSRP

Or

$623 MSRP. Is that too much?

my one experience w/ reboring was partially out of curiosity to see how well would turn out. was a wby mark v 300mag w/ 26" #2 contour had mcgowen rebore to 340wby. for another $50 could have had a brand new bbl of theirs fitted and blued. but this way no refinishing and no inletting work. but i'd not do it again. just flat not cost effective except in the aforementioned cases regarding external bbl machined in shapes etc.

Just received my Rem 721 that I had rebored to 338/06 from the 30-06 original chamber. I am pleased with the work done by Dan Pedersen at Classic Barrel & Gunworks. Here is his website address- www.cutrifle.com One of the advantages is that you can specify the twist rate you desire. He can provide just about any twist rate from 5 1/2" to whatever. Whether or not it is cost effective you have to make that your decision. I am satisfied.

Best regards,

Ol' John
