What oil do you recommend to put in your bore after cleaning. Not really for long time storage but just after each cleaning. And do you put a wet oiled patch through then a dry one immediately after or just right before you shoot? I am interested in Tetra-Gun gun oil, they also make a solvent. Has anyone used this ?GOOD? BAD? I have also heard good things about butches bore oil. I use sweets to clean out the copper fouling and then shooters choice to "kill" the sweets but i havent been putting oil in the bore after cleaning. WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? thanx for all responses

I run an oiled patch through the bore after cleaning, and follow it with one dry patch. The idea is to leave a thin oil film, but not having excess run down into the action and trigger. When I go to the range I just shoot, but always consider the first shot a "fouling" shot. I have used most "gun oils" over the years including the Tetra products. As far as I can tell they all work. I have come to believe that packaging things with "gun" on the label is just an excuse to increase the price. Even auto transmission fluid works as a gun oil. jim dodd

Plain old Dextron 3 transmission oil is what I use for about everything. If you want it thinner, add a little mineral spirits. I've used Dextron thinned by half on a lever gun that got submerged (don't ask.) Took the stocks off and simply submerged the whole action for a while then used compressed air to blow out the excess and wiped it down. Pushed a dry patch through the mag tub and barrel then reassembled. I believe there are auto transmission fluids for heavy trucks if you want it thicker - though I've not looked into it. Another commonly-used item is Johnson's paste wax on both wood and metal. Its not for the interior of the barrel but works well to protect exterior surfaces.
