Polishing actions

Recently I was in the gun room at Cabelas and was looking at a sporterized Mauser and Springfield. Both rifles were built by Paul Jaeger. What interested me the most was the only visable markings on the actions were the serial numbers. I like the clean look of the actions without markings.

Now my questions. Did some actions come unmarked, or were these actions polished/ground to remove the markings? If they were removed, is this a normal thing to do when sporterizing a action?

Thank you, Tony

I can't say if Mauser action came blank But if you grind an action in, all the markings will be lost, it's just the nature of the beast.

There are way to hand polish an action around the marking but it is very time consuming and difficult to do well.
